The PIA – Anti-Racist Early Childhood strategy aims to draw the attention of Brazilian education, social assistance and health professionals to the impacts of racism on child development, in addition to guaranteeing, in fact, qualified and humanized care, which takes into account the ethnic-racial specificities of children and their families, supporting mothers, fathers or caregivers to exercise positive parenting that structures the foundations of child development.

To ensure the full development of children to their potential, structural and institutional racism needs to be faced by the entire society in a collective pact: health, education, social assistance, families and society as a whole, recognizing the problem and implementing anti-racist practices .

Anti-racism is the set of actions that aim to combat racism present in all structures of our society. This struggle does not exclusively concern black or indigenous people, but is increasingly of interest to society as a whole.

An initiative by UNICEF Brazil in partnership with the Promundo Institute, the PIA – Primeira Infância Antirracista strategy consists of a communication campaign that offers informative materials and inducements of anti-racist practices in the different care services for pregnant women, black and indigenous children up to 6 years old, in addition to their families. There are four sectoral notebooks, a pocket parental booklet, a web series on anti-racist parenting with influencers and experts, cards and videos for social media, as well as in-person awareness and mobilization workshops in the # AgendaCidadeUNICEF territories.
