Annual Report 2010

Promundo

In 2010, Promundo continued the actions previously initiated to promote gender equity through workshops and training for education and health professionals, campaigns and community actions, networking and the development of research and publication of data on the theme.

The workshops on gender and sexuality with public school teachers influenced pedagogical policy plans and inspired the production of strategies for work in classrooms.

Men's health in the workplace was the focus of a collaboration between Promundo and other organizations that are part of Aliança H (ECOS and Instituto Papai) with the Social Service of Industry (SESI) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Another central theme of the organization, the appreciation of Fatherhood and the promotion of inclusive and participatory fatherhood, was worked on by the “Men and Fatherhood” project carried out in the Santa Marta community, in Rio de Janeiro.

With a view to mobilizing men to implement a community campaign to prevent violence against women, a football championship held in the community of Santa Marta, the “Campeonato Laço Branco”, was used as a strategy.

The institution's Research and Evaluation area carried out several studies on sexual health, reproductive health and gender-based violence in Brazil and around the world. In 2010, research was also carried out on the commercial sexual exploitation of boys.

Through networking, Promundo sought to draw the attention of society, governments and private entities to the importance of its mission and, in this way, influence the creation and improvement of public policies aimed at gender equity and its cross-cutting themes .
