LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD (2018-2019), EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (2019) AND FOUNDING PARTNER (1997)

In the last four years, PROMUNDO went through its biggest challenge since its founding in 1997. With a growing deficit accumulated throughout its history, the Institute needed to reinvent itself. I am very happy to have had the opportunity to lead this transformation process from 2018 onwards.

Without renouncing the lessons learned from the past and our technical work recognized around the world, confident in our important institutional mission and strengthened by the network of new associates, consultants and supporters, we use the most advanced management and compliance principles to change a financial situation that seemed irreparable until 2017. Therefore, in 2019, we were able to present the first accumulated surplus in the organization's history.

During the last year, all projects with open accounts were duly reconciled with our financiers, we moved the organization's headquarters from Rio de Janeiro to Brasília (without giving up the projects being executed in Rio, but empowering our presence in strengthening national public policies ), we renegotiated all outstanding debts and created a dynamic organizational structure, guided by efficient deliveries, competent socio-managerial leadership and a significant reduction in our fixed costs. Incredible as it may seem, we were able to see that the biggest beneficiary of all this has been society and the vulnerable populations that need our work most. As can be seen in this report, we have established a structure focused on advocacy and reapplication of our social technologies with several partnerships from the first, second and third sectors. This is in addition to rigorous review and research mechanisms. We also strengthened our communication channels through social networks, our website and mainstream media. Thus, we were able to exponentially increase the number of professionals and families who benefited from our work. It is with great pride that we see a civil society organization that now knows how to reconcile its principles and good management and efficiency practices with its institutional mission for the common good. Therefore, we continue as one of the main global references for the engagement of men and boys, in collaboration with women and girls, in gender equality and reducing violence, and we have achieved international management standards (which have been attested by independent audits).

We are aware of the challenges of the coming years, due to visible adverse social, political, economic and environmental contexts, among others. However, we believe that by always acting strategically and competently, in a network and in partnership with organizations from all national and international sectors, we will continue to overcome challenges and contribute to a true redefinition of masculinity.
