Final Report of the Project An Island of Paternities

Luciano Ramos, Camila Rebouças, Promundo

In partnership with ANDI – Comunicação e Direito and Petrobras.

Since the beginning of the actions of the Uma Ilha de Paternidades Project, the project has worked from the perspective of assistance, through groups on Paternity and Care for the protection of Early Childhood. Thus, the Project seeks to carry out activities with male fathers to exercise caring fatherhood,

protective and responsible. Thus, the project began its actions in person, before the COVID 19 Pandemic in Brazil. In this scenario, of face-to-face action, combining cycles 1 and 2, 32 men were attended in the workshops.

When, due to the pandemic, the project had to interrupt its in-person actions, creative alternatives were needed to maintain the actions. Among them, we can mention here the lives with parents and specialists in paternity and Early Childhood; Seminars and the creation of the P Program via WhatsApp to serve parents remotely. At this time, Promundo held workshops on Fatherhood and Care with 160 male fathers in Pernambuco. The workshops were held in an unprecedented partnership with the local government within the scope of the Happy Child Program.

Promundo then held 3 series of workshops to cover cycle 4 of the project:
03 series:
1. Ceará with 17 men. The initial proposal was 40 men, but this number was not reached due to the difficult mobilization of men in that participation scenario; (December 2020)
2. 98 male fathers from Morro dos Prazeres – Santa Teresa – RJ (until March 2021)
3. 54 male fathers in Morro dos Guararapes – Santa Teresa – RJ (until July 2021)
Thus, the project assisted 32 male fathers in person and 169 male fathers via remote methodology. Totaling 201 male fathers.

Therefore, if we look at the scenario of extra workshops held in Pernambuco, there was another group of 160 men participating. This entire group served reaches 361 men. This is almost double the number stipulated in the initial proposal of 200 men. This report reports the process and main results of the Uma Ilha de Paternidades project.

Despite all the obstacles due to the New Coronavirus Pandemic, the project was restructured and transformed the face-to-face methodology into online activities, consolidating Program P's social technology into an even more accessible methodology.

Over 2 years of action, more than 400 young children benefited from more careful, participatory and responsible parenting. It is exciting to see the changes that parents begin to implement on a daily basis during and after Program P sessions and the impact this has on their families, and especially on the lives of children.

I wish you a good read!
