Letter from the Executive Director and President of the Deliberative Council

After 35 years of the promulgation of the Brazilian Constitution, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) recognized in 2023 the legislative omission on the regulation of the right to paternity leave.

​

In this sense, the efforts of organized civil society were fundamental to this achievement. Promundo played an important role in this movement, participating in the Working Group of the National Congress to prepare a normative proposal, structuring the Paternity Leave Coalition and launching the book “Dá Licença: Sou Pai” by its vice-president, Odilon Schwerz Burtet.

In 2023, Promundo is also proud to have signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement (ACT) with the Ministry of Health to train 15,000 professionals from the Men's Health Coordination across the country with the main objective of strengthening the Pre-Natal Program of Partner. In the first months of the Agreement alone, hundreds of professionals have already been trained.

Furthermore, training materials are being developed for distance education, including the course already existing on the AVASUS platform, and updated, as in the case of our Program H. This entire process is being done collaboratively with the effective participation of a large network of experts on the themes of masculinity and fatherhood, including black, special and traditional populations.

​

Therefore, it is with immense joy that Promundo and its team played a leading role in 2023 in male participation in early childhood development, men's health, and the eradication of gender-based violence and racism in Brazil and the world.

The challenges will continue in the coming years. There is a lot to do! But, with the support we have been receiving from our partners, associates, collaborators, support networks, media and government bodies themselves, we feel with increased strength to achieve true gender equality and give new meaning to our human values.
