About Promundo

Founded in 1997, Promundo is a Brazilian non-governmental organization, with no institutional ties to foreign organizations, which operates in different regions of Brazil and other countries around the world seeking to promote gender equality and the prevention of violence with a focus on the involvement of men and women in the transformation of masculinities.

Our actions seek to generate transformations at different levels, such as interventions in groups with men and women, campaigns, educational methodologies and dialogue with institutions and governments to influence policies and expand programs that provide social change.

Currently, our methodologies have already been adapted by other organizations in more than 22 countries.

Major organizations including the United Nations, the World Bank, the World Health Organization and national governments have already supported our cause, working as partners in our initiatives or adopting our programs and implementing them in countless communities around the world.

Promundo is an organization that has existed for 26 years and has worked with boys, young men and men to raise awareness and become allies of girls, young women, women and the LBGTQIAP+ population in reducing gender-based violence.

Promundo has been working hard to promote racial equity by working with black and indigenous populations in the empowerment process, as well as with professionals operating public policy for non-racist services that contribute to the full development of black children, adolescents and families. indigenous people.

Promundo has been working with governments in Brazil and internationally to develop careful and equitable fatherhood and masculinity, as well as creating methodological materials that support governments and social organizations. Promundo also participates in national and international networks focused on its mission. In Brazil and around the world, Promundo is recognized as a reference organization in the areas of Masculinity and Fatherhood, working with organizations such as UNICEF, the World Bank and other large organizations.

Our research, programs and actions to influence public policy (advocacy) show that promoting positive notions about what it means to be a man or a woman provides improvements to their lives.
