Representative of the Ibero-American Masculinity Network wins competition held by the UN

One of the youngest members of the Ibero-American Masculinity Network (RIM), Ramiro Exposito Gaspe, from Cuba, was a seller in the global “Design the Join Campaign t-shirt” competition open to all young men in the world held by the UN.

Launched in 2008, the Join Together to End Violence Against Women campaign seeks to generate public awareness and increase political will and resources to prevent and eradicate all forms of violence against women and girls around the world. The campaign calls on governments, civil society organizations, media and the entire United Nations system to join forces and thereby resolve this global pandemic.

25 regional candidates were selected and, from these, five global winners were chosen. Gaspe Expósito Ramiro's work represented Latin America and the Caribbean, along with representatives from Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.

This award is part of the results of the work of the Ibero-American Masculinity Network, coordinated by professor Julio César González Pagés, with young people from different backgrounds who have committed violence against women.

“I am very happy and proud to contribute to the work done by the United Nations in preventing violence against women and young people. We can reverse the processes of violence in our countries”, said the young man.

The creators of the five winning projects, as well as the creator of the public vote-winning project, will go to New York to receive the award and participate in the official celebration of the United Nations International Day to End Violence against Women, on November 22, 2011.
