Public school students participate in project to promote gender equality in schools

Action is part of a project to promote fatherhood and care


Since May, around 12 students from Rio de Janeiro's state education network have participated in gender awareness workshops to reflect on topics such as sexuality, health, drugs, violence, teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS prevention and sexually transmitted diseases. Currently, young people are, with the support of a communications agency, creating a campaign to engage other students in promoting gender equality, which will be disseminated in schools in November.


These activities are part of the Mais Pai! project, developed by Promundo with funding from the Dutch Embassy, an initiative that aims to help men become involved in equitable gender relationships, fatherhood and are emotionally connected to their children, partners and partners. your own health. The project takes place in Brazil, Rwanda, South Africa and Indonesia. The Brazilian version also provides for educational groups with parents and couples on sexual and reproductive health, gender equity, fatherhood and care; therapeutic groups with men who have used intimate violence with partners; advocacy and alliances with organizations and governments to create public policies for men's involvement in maternal and paternity health.


As part of the political articulations foreseen by the project, Promundo is integrating the organization of the 1st National Seminar on Paternity and Care in the SUS coordinated by the Technical Area of Men's Health of the Ministry of Health, which will be held between the 28th and 30th of August at Rio de Janeiro.
