After awarding Promundo the Juscelino Kubitschek Award, for its work on issues related to human rights in Brazil, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) invited the Institute to conduct a gender training initiative for professionals who work with young people at Galpão Aplauso .
Aimed at training and inserting young people from low-income communities in Rio de Janeiro into the job market, Galpão Aplauso develops initiatives in the cultural, artistic and business areas. The courses offered include professional technicians, theater, circus, dance, music and visual arts. In addition, Galpão also has a Theater and Dance Company formed by the young beneficiaries of its courses.
The initiative led by Promundo aims to train 20 educators from Galpão Aplauso courses on topics such as building bonds, communication and relationships, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, racism, sexual and reproductive rights, sexual exploitation of children and adolescents, discrimination in labor market and social movements. The aim of the project is that, after training, these educators can include awareness raising on these topics among young beneficiaries as part of the course program.
To work on the themes, ten workshops were developed, a cycle that will be completed in December this year. After the cycle of workshops, a booklet will be developed with suggestions for activities that professionals can develop with the young beneficiaries of the courses. The last workshops with professionals will be dedicated to the development of action plans based on the booklet so that professionals can work on the topics covered in the training with young people. The action plan will be implemented in 2017, with monitoring and evaluation by Promundo.
