Promundo’s actions during the pandemic period

The Promundo Institute, during the quarantine period, continues with its mission of promoting gender equity and preventing gender-based violence. Understanding the importance of continuing our actions, within the scope of the Youth Projects for the End of Violence (JPFV) and Uma Ilha de Paternidades, our team promoted an adaptation of our methodologies, through social media, to continue dialoguing with the families involved in our projects in a creative and dynamic way.

Since the beginning of the quarantine, families participating in the JPFV project have received weekly sports and educational activities. As for the men in the Uma Ilha de Paternidades Project, they receive activities that encourage care and effective participation in domestic activities, and in both projects they are actions that work on the themes of the Promundo Institute.

The activities, which are sent via WhatsApp, can be carried out at home and remotely, respecting social isolation and using accessible materials, in order to promote the strengthening of family bonds. In addition to continuing our educational and sporting activities, the psychosocial team continues to provide guidance to families in the most sensitive situations, such as domestic violence and other issues related to violence against children and adolescents, promoting coordination with local service networks and carrying out online and remote services.

The Coronavirus pandemic not only has repercussions in the health sector, but also generates global economic and social impacts. Understanding the reality of families participating in our actions, Instituto Promundo promoted, in partnership with other entities, the delivery of basic food baskets, soaps, alcohol gel and masks to 116 families in our territories of operation, Morro dos Prazeres and Morro do Guararapes .

Also, we remind you that our team continues to work from their respective homes, seeking to adopt the basic guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other health bodies in the fight against the new coronavirus. According to the specialized scientific community, social isolation is the most effective means of reducing cases of the disease, as well as mass contagion. Meetings and all activities have been carried out remotely, through weekly virtual meetings and the sending of instant messages, in an attempt to reconcile the progress of projects and emergency actions aimed at the communities for which they are intended.
