Promundo promotes actions to expand the discussion around Fatherhood and Care in the month of August

Due to Fathers' Month, Promundo takes advantage of the period to discuss the benefits of fatherhood and care. The recently released report on the State of the World's Fatherhood presents evidence that fatherhood involved from prenatal care to the daily care of children benefits children's development, improves maternal and child health and men's own health. Furthermore, the involvement of men in the division of domestic tasks and care generates direct benefits for women, since, while men carry out only 20% of the housework, they represent 40% of the paid workforce. A better sexual distribution of work is fundamental to achieving gender equality.

To expand the discussion on the topic, on August 26th and 27th, Promundo, in partnership with the Rede Nacional Primeira Infância – RNPI, will hold the National Seminar on Fatherhood and First Childhood in Rio de Janeiro, with support from UNICEF. The event aims to promote the exchange of experiences on fatherhood and early childhood, expand reflection on the importance of men in caring for young children and its implications for the family, as well as serving as a space to strengthen the support network for expanding licenses. paternity.

Marco Aurélio Martins, executive coordinator of Promundo, will participate in the table “Strategies for the Institutionalization of Paternal Care”, on the first day of the event, which will feature two more tables addressing paternal care based on its impacts on early childhood and experiences of mobilization and communication around the topic. On the second day, participants will be able to choose between four working groups that will discuss education, care and play; violence prevention; challenges for the media; and health.

During the Seminar, Promundo will launch the website Homem Cuidam – www.homenscuidam.org.br – its new online platform on paternity and care for men, which will bring news, publications and information about the paternity actions developed by Promundo and by partners in various parts of the world. A second updated edition of Programa P will also be launched at the event and the Você é meu Pai Exhibition, with photographs and fatherhood stories, will be available for the public to visit.
