Promundo participated in the Sentidos do Nascer exhibition that took place in Rio de Janeiro between the 7th and 26th of July. The exhibition held by the Sentidos do Nascer project is interactive and itinerant and aims to encourage and increase knowledge about humanized and natural births and reduce the number of cesarean sections performed in Brazil.
Through an invitation from the Superintendence of Health Promotion of the Municipal Department of Health and Civil Defense of Rio de Janeiro, a partner of the event, Promundo, on July 17th, held a workshop on Baby Carriers, also known as slings, together with the duo from the group Sling-se, Karen Kauffmann and Barbara Lito. The workshop teaches in a practical way the different tying of fabrics to carry babies, presenting the benefits of bodily and emotional contact that the technique provides for both children and mothers and fathers.
“This technique helps to avoid colic, improves the baby's intestinal functioning, as well as acting on the mother's hormonal production, which will benefit the increase in milk production and the bond between parents and children”, explained the workshop Karen Kauffmann.
The Program P manual, a methodology developed by Promundo to encourage fathers' participation in parenting and care, will incorporate the baby carrier workshop in a new edition that will be launched in August.
