Promundo News Editorial nº8

International Day of the Girl, October 11, draws attention to the importance of promoting the empowerment of girls and overcoming gender norms that produce inequalities in opportunities and development between boys and girls. In 2013, the date sought to encourage girls' education to guarantee a more equal future.

In this edition of Notícias Promundo, we interviewed Samantha Wright, director of the “Girl Rising” global campaign. The campaign seeks to raise funds to promote girls' education through the release of the film “Girl Rising”, which tells the real story of nine girls from nine countries around the world, and features narrations by internationally famous actresses, such as Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep.

We present the article “Child Marriage: a global issue”, by Giovanna Lauro and Margaret E. Greene, which provides important data on this issue that affects the lives of around 14 million girls around the world.

Follow the latest news on projects and activities developed by Promundo, such as the Women's Economic Empowerment Project in Rio de Janeiro and Recife and the Men, Peace and Security Seminar that will take place in Washington-DC at the end of October.
