In the January edition of Notícias Promundo we bring an overview of the activities carried out by Promundo in different parts of the world at the end of 2012 and beginning of 2013.
We present the results of the IMAGES survey (International Men and Gender Equality Survey) carried out in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2012, which brings alarming data on the use of sexual and gender-based violence in this country: 48% of men said they had perpetrated some type of gender-based physical violence against their partners, while 53% of women declared that they had been victims of violence by their partner.
In the interview session, we bring the report of Henny Slegh, Promundo representative in the Great Lakes region in Africa, about the challenges in carrying out the IMAGES – Congo research. In addition to describing her experience in the field, she offers a moving reflection on the ethical and moral issues involved in carrying out research in contexts of conflict and extreme poverty.
In Brazil, we presented the campaign to promote gender equality in the workplace that Promundo carried out at IEComperj, a Petrobras project with around 1000 employees; and information about research on feelings of safety in four Rio communities.
Promundo wants 2013 to be a year of achievements for gender equity and social justice for all.
