Promundo launches campaign to End Violence Against Women

Inspired by the Brazilian White Ribbon Campaign, the Men to End Violence Against Women campaign aims to raise awareness, involve and mobilize men to commit to ending violence against women in Morro dos Prazeres. The central idea is to promote reflection on gender patterns that produce differences in decision-making power between women and men. Another objective is to shed light and discuss the factors that reproduce violence and behaviors, which end up naturalizing the use of force against women and children and distancing parents from the relationship of care and affection with their children.

Futsal Championship No violence, just pleasures!

This Saturday, October 1st, will be the opening of the  No Violence, Just Pleasures futsal championship! One of the three axes of the campaign, the championship was designed as a community mobilization strategy to spread the prevention of violence against women. The championship will last two months and will bring together 10 teams. The matches will take place on Saturdays, between 1pm and 6pm, at the futsal court in the Morro dos Prazeres community. The activity involves the involvement of residents during games and the integration of families around the theme of preventing violence against women and gender equality.

Another axis of the campaign are awareness-raising workshops that bring together around 20 people, most of them men, weekly to reflect on and question gender patterns in Morro dos Prazeres. These people act as disseminating agents for the campaign in the community. The topics covered in the workshops are: gender, types of violence (physical, psychological and sexual), sexuality, sexual and reproductive health and men's involvement in the education and care of their children.

Based on the participation of this group in the workshops, it was possible to create the third axis of the campaign, communication actions, in a fully participatory way. The group diagnosed spaces, selected materials, identified communication strategies and opportunities for efficient dissemination of the campaign theme in the community.

The communication strategies and pieces created involve: a weekly newspaper, which will cover the games, interviews with residents and texts about gender equality; posters and pamphlets on the campaign theme; a Facebook page and also video and funk competitions about violence against women.
