The event also featured training in anti-racist education for new education employees

A notable agenda for Promundo's work was held on July 5th. The launch of the Notebook “Educational innovation and social inclusion: overcoming barriers to guarantee permanence in schools in Amapá”, in a special event, at Sebrae – AP, also aimed at welcoming education employees recently appointed by the government.

Almost 600 people participated in the occasion and had the opportunity to receive a master class with the theme: “Anti-racist education: the political pedagogical work of new education employees in the Amazon territory of Amapá”.

A project that had already been developed since 2023 had the opportunity to present the fruits of a partnership for the education of young people between the institute, the Amapá State Department of Education and the Porticus organization. The Notebook was produced collaboratively based on listening to education professionals in co-creation workshops. The content will be made available in public schools and the methodology can be implemented by educators in their classroom routine.

About the project

Reflecting on what causes school dropout and analyzing data on the phenomenon in Amapá was a demand shared by the State Department of Education and the State's educators. From then on, Promundo entered this space to contribute and began developing a methodology for tackling the problem, proposing a collective and collaborative process.

Since March 2023, Promundo began dialogues with the Amapá Department of Education to structure a collaborative and dialogic workshop, seeking to listen to educators, contextualize the main issues presented and think together about the best solutions and improvements for the educational experience of young people in Amapá. Amapá territory.

The workshop took place between August 15th and 16th, 2023 and its main objective was to support the construction of informative materials about dropout and retention in schools. Several themes were added to the discussions that permeated the issue in focus, such as themes such as gender equity, racial equity, anti-racism, violence against children and adolescents, providing data on the scenario of violation of the rights of children and adolescents in Brazil , identifying different aspects involved in the phenomenon of school dropout and analyzing the possibilities for confronting violence.

The two-day workshop was an immersion with professionals who work in the training of teachers. The socialization of reflections gave rise to the pedagogical notebook. The initiative wants to draw the attention of education professionals to the current context experienced by Brazilian teenagers and young people, especially residents of the State of Amapá, problematizing the main causes of school dropout and how professionals in the public education network can contribute to coping and prevention.

The deputy director of Promundo, Luciano Ramos, who was part of the entire process of composing the Caderno, expressed satisfaction with the result. “It was a very intense agenda, a strong moment to celebrate the project carried out”.

He also highlighted the importance of looking at education and its exercise in a more contextualized way and closer to the students' reality.

“We need to think about an education that looks at students and understands all the complexities they bring. Once the educator goes through this training, he understands that it is not only the content of his discipline that needs to be worked on, but also a humanizing education”, he highlighted.

For Jair Nascimento Borges, Manager of the Training Center for School Management at the Amapá Department of Education, the moment was opportune and beneficial. “The launch of the training notebook crowned a beautiful, profitable and fruitful partnership between the State Department of Education and the Promundo Institute. This notebook now becomes an important tool to combat school dropout. We hope to continue together in the next challenges arising from the launch. We have training to carry out and we hope to be able to continue counting on Promundo in this process”

The Secretary of State for Education, Sandra Casimiro, highlighted the importance of teacher training in the quality of public education. “As education professionals, we must always be updating ourselves with new knowledge, to accompany our students. That’s why moments like this are so important.”
