Promundo is a partner of the V CineMundo Festival that honored mothers from Acari

Cinema Nosso, sponsored by Petrobras and in partnership with SEBRAE and PROMUNDO, held the 1st International Seminar: Training, Audience and Audiovisual Market and the 5th CineMundo Festival. The event discussed the current scenario of training and the audiovisual market.

During the CineMundo Festival, the first Rumos Exhibition was held with the aim of promoting the work of national and international filmmakers. The film Mourning as a Mother opened the Festival, which took place last Wednesday, December 5, 2012, paying tribute to everyone who participated in this documentary, especially the mothers and their families who were present at the session.

The session was presented by researcher and executive director of Promundo Tatiana Moura and director Luis Nascimento, who highlighted the importance of this movement that gained support and more prominence with the documentary that portrayed this harsh reality.

More than 70 people attended the film screening, including students, educators, guests and honorees. The emotion was always present, especially when the plaques were handed out to the mothers of Acari, which were received by the children of Marilene Lima (who passed away on October 15, 2012) and Vera Lucia Flores' daughter (August 10, 2008 ).

“Luto como Mãe” is a film that talks about urban violence through the eyes of women and shows the city of Rio de Janeiro as a stage for summary and arbitrary executions committed by State agents. Each death brings with it the pain of those left behind, affecting their entire social circle, especially family and friends. The documentary focuses on the stories of these survivors, mostly women, and their rite of passage from mourning to the fight for justice and against invisibility.

Directed by Luís Carlos Nascimento and produced by Cinema Nosso, Jabuti Filmes and TVZero, in partnership with the Observatory on Gender and Armed Violence (OGiVA/CES, University of Coimbra) and the Center for Studies on Security and Citizenship (CESeC, Universidade Cândido Mendes , Brazil).
