Promundo in South Sudan

Joseph Vess and Augustin Kimonyo were in South Sudan from April 13 to 25 for the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Prevention project funded by the World Bank. They conducted visits with several NGOs and government agencies in the capital Juba and in the south of the country in Magwi to gather information about the work already being done to engage men in preventing sexual and gender-based violence, gaps, opportunities and possible new directions.

During the second week they conducted training with more than 30 NGO staff and civil servants on engaging men in preventing sexual and gender-based violence in post-conflict contexts, as well as discussing the situation in South Sudan and helping participants to prepare action plans to engage men over the next 6 months. During the visit they worked with Veronica Eragu, a World Bank consultant with a long history in South Sudan, who provided valuable perspectives on the country, as well as co-facilitating the training.
