In a partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Promundo developed in 2016 the project “Training of Educators for the Promotion of Gender Equality”, which aims to qualify the intervention of professionals with beneficiaries of Galpão Aplauso, an organization that carries out initiatives in the cultural, artistic and business areas aimed at young people from low-income communities in Rio de Janeiro and Paraty.
In the initial phase of the project, focus groups were conducted with professionals and students, to identify demands related to the promotion of gender equality. Promundo then held eight meetings with professional educators covering topics such as gender and social norms, sexual and reproductive rights, protection network and violence prevention, racism and non-violent communication.
After this period, a new focus group with professionals was held to measure possible changes in their perceptions regarding these themes.
In the second phase of the project, Promundo developed the Toolkit for Promoting Gender Equality in Actions with Young People and Adolescents, based on the methodology used during the training process, proposing practical workshops and discussions. The material methodology will be implemented by Galpão Aplauso professionals, together with around 320 young beneficiaries, in the third phase of the project, over three meetings to be monitored by Promundo, still in 2017. The material will soon be available for download on the Promundo website.
