Promundo carries out project on sustainability in Morro dos Prazeres

In the month of Rio+20, Promundo embarked on the theme of sustainability and developed a football tournament that combined gender awareness and environmental awareness workshops. The “Sharing Energy” project carried out in partnership with the North American institution Uncharted Play, creator of Socket, a football that also works as a sustainable energy generator, brought together around 80 boys and girls, between 13 and 18 years old, residents of Morro dos Prazeres, on the 16th, 17th and 23rd of June.

“Sharing Energy” aimed to promote a discussion with young people about social norms that naturalize attitudes that can be harmful to men, women, children and also the environment. Using Socket as a dynamization tool, the workshops dealt with topics such as gender patterns, violence, power relations and sustainability. After the mornings of conversations and debates, the young people, divided into four teams of boys and girls, competed in the football tournament. On the last day, mixed football teams made up of boys and girls were formed, who played together and interacted respecting each other's differences and abilities.

Uncharted Play is an institution that aims to create fun products and services that allow people to rethink the role of games as a tool to address essential issues for society. The Socket was developed to generate 3 hours of energy after just 30 minutes of use.
