A total of 173 initiatives will receive certificates and will form part of the Banco do Brasil Foundation's Social Technologies Bank
The results of the first classification phase for the Social Technology Award from the Banco do Brasil Foundation have been released. Of the 735 registered initiatives, 173 were considered eligible to receive certification in 2017 and one of them is Program H, developed by Promundo and partners. This is the ninth edition of the award, which aims to raise sustainable projects that can be replicated in different communities.
The screening was carried out by a committee made up of the BB Foundation technical team, which followed the regulation criteria to arrive at the selected proposals. Among the requirements requested were: time of activity, evidence of social transformation, systematization of technology, to the point of making it possible to replicate it in other communities, and respect for the values of social protagonism, cultural respect, environmental care and economic solidarity .
The submitted proposals were classified into six national categories, of which 15 technologies were validated in the Agroecology category, 27 in Water and/or Environment, 11 in Sustainable Cities and/or Digital Innovation, 40 in Solidarity Economy, 52 in Education and 16 in Health and wellness. In the international category, 12 proposals were classified.
With certification, the technologies become part of the BB Foundation's Social Technology Bank (BTS), which now has 995 initiatives capable of replication. BTS is an online database that brings together methodologies recognized for promoting the resolution of problems common to different Brazilian communities. In this database, all social technologies can be consulted by theme, executing entity, target audience, region, federative unit, among other search parameters.
To consult the bank, simply access the email address: Tecnologiasocial.fbb.org.br . It is also possible to consult this database through the “Banco de Tecnologias Sociais” cell phone application, available for Android and IOS devices.
For the president of the Banco do Brasil Foundation, Asclepius Soares, the certification of a project with the “BB Foundation Certified” seal guarantees more visibility for the initiative, in addition to strengthening the concept for its replication in other locations in the country. “Our goal is to improve people's lives through the recognition and reapplication of social technologies that have already worked in different locations. We bring popular wisdom closer to technical knowledge to provide social development on a scale”, he explained.
The next stage of the Award is scheduled for August 15th, with the announcement of the finalist projects. The winning proposals will be announced at the awards ceremony in November.
This year, Fundação BB will award R$50,000 to each of the six winning initiatives in the national categories, in addition to awarding a trophy and producing a video portraying the initiatives of the 21 national finalist institutions and the three international finalists.
This edition has the cooperation of UNESCO in Brazil and the support of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
About Program H
Program H (H for men and hombres, in Spanish) was launched in 2002 by Promundo and partner organizations (Instituto Papai, ECOS, Salud y Género) and has already been adapted in more than 20 countries. Aimed at young men aged between 15 and 24, it aims to promote reflection on rigid norms associated with masculinity. It is based on several surveys carried out with young men in Brazil with gender equitable attitudes, which revealed that the adoption of these attitudes had been influenced by the presence of peers who supported gender equality, personal experiences of success associated with gender equality and the existence of positive male role models.
Program H's methodology combines educational workshops with awareness campaigns developed by young people that aim to transform gender norms, such as the use of contraceptives or the division of domestic tasks. To complement these activities, Promundo makes the speechless cartoon Minha Vida de João available. The Program H manual has around 70 activities that can be used according to the needs of the communities.
