Portal for Gender Equity trains educators in Rio das Ostras

In partnership with the Municipal Department of Education of Rio das Ostras, the Promundo Institute is training 55 professionals from the public education network – including civil police officers who provide security at schools – through the Portal for Gender Equity in Schools (PEGE), environment virtual distance education program developed by the institution. On March 21, the inaugural face-to-face class was held in Rio das Ostras, when Promundo presented the course methodology and began the discussion about gender with the group of educators. Classes started on March 26th.


The Portal for Gender Equity in Schools (PEGE) aims to offer professionals who work in schools with adolescents and young people tools for reflection and carrying out actions to promote gender equity. It provides tools from Programs H and M, provides resources such as videos, images, debate forums, virtual library, in addition to promoting the exchange of experiences on the application of actions in schools.

The course, which lasts seven months, is divided into six main modules: 1) gender; 2) sexuality and sexual rights and reproductive rights (DSDR); 3) health and care; 4) pregnancy; 5) paternity and maternity; 6) violence prevention.


Another group made up of 140 education professionals from the Salvador public school system has been trained since September 2011 with PEGE classes.
