In 2021, Promundo launched the First Report on Black Paternities in Brazil. Since then, the organization has effectively started working on the anti-racism agenda on all of its action fronts. Thus, in 2022, Promundo included an effective commitment to work based on anti-racist practices in its strategic planning. In 2022, Promundo became the implementing partner of the Anti-Racist Early Childhood Project, in partnership with UNICEF in Brazil. The Project is an initiative to work with Education, Social Assistance and Health professionals to create the perspective of humanized care based on anti-racism.
Education and Health professionals will be trained to combat racism in early childhood – Jornal Hoje (23.05.2023)
To this end, the project has different instruments to support assertive and humanized practices on the part of trained professionals:
Notebooks for different sectors – Social Assistance, Health and Education professionals will be able to count on methodological materials that contribute to practices based on the logic of otherness, care, protection in the relationship with black and indigenous children, in addition to their families. The notebooks also include theoretical approaches to racism, whiteness, identities and unconscious biases.
Web series – some families of black and indigenous children and influencers recorded interviews about parenting. In the videos, participants talk about their parental relationships, the challenges, the strengths and how this care is applied in everyday life. The videos are materials that directly contribute to the educational process of professionals who work with black families in their daily lives.
Workshops – the project is developing 08 meetings in different capitals of Brazil that develop the UNICEF City Agenda Program, with the aim of contributing to racial literacy and humanized practices in serving black and indigenous children and their families.
Development of informative cards for social networks – a series of cards by sector were developed.
Thus, the PIA becomes an important instrument to debate and promote anti-racism on a daily basis in the services of different sectors. The work developed and the launch of the PIA reinforce Promundo's commitment to the anti-racism agenda in Brazil and other parts of the world.
