Youth

Youth is a force with which Promundo also works together. Young people represent a large portion of the population that moves our country and we believe in them as great agents of social transformation.

This power for change is unfortunately often wasted or weakened by the lack of appreciation of capabilities, the lack of opportunities and especially the violence that affects them daily.

Therefore, we have made working with these powers through the Youth for the End of Violence (JPFV) project one of our pillars. The project was developed to help adolescent boys and girls recover from experiences of violence, while providing critical educational training for violence prevention.

Young People to End Violence

Inspired by studies on the intergenerational transmission of violence and the prevention of violence against boys and girls through group education, the project is concerned with contributing to the lives of young participants as support in their development. This support takes place through group education, group and individual therapy activities with adolescent girls and boys that address the root causes of violence, encouraging changes in individual attitudes and behaviors related to gender equity, use of violence and self-realization. in relationships.

Another strengthening tool present in the initiative are school campaigns and activities with the school community that inform community members about reporting and assistance mechanisms available for adolescent girls and boys who have been exposed to violence.

JPFV operates at multiple levels, carrying out training activities and multiplying agents articulating gender equity, prevention and combating violence. In addition to working with young people and their family, community and educational contexts, the project also aims to create a more informed policy environment by seeking partnerships and carrying out advocacy actions with key actors in schools, government and civil society organizations to the implementation of programs and policies to prevent and respond to violence against adolescent girls and boys.

The idea is to provide teenagers with a greater experience of gender equality and a life free from violence through personal and community transformation, in addition to strengthening support networks for young people.

Together with funders KNH and Comic Relief, the project has already completed 10 years of operation and continues to be effective in its methodology and practices.
