Antiracism

Anti-racism is the set of actions that aim to confront racism present in all structures of our society. This struggle does not exclusively concern black or indigenous people, but is increasingly of interest to society as a whole.

Promundo has been working on the importance of anti-racism in Brazil, developing actions, training and campaigns and connecting the topic with other themes we work on, such as masculinity, fatherhood and early childhood.

It is time to recognize the strength of this country's diverse cultural roots. The urgency of this recognition and appreciation involves identifying racism, understanding the seriousness of the way it operates and fighting against this structure of violence. It is essential that the whole of society gets involved in this commitment.

To achieve this, we need to adopt an anti-racist stance, with practical actions that aim to mitigate the impacts of racial discrimination on the lives of black people. Therefore, it is important to understand the dimensions in which racism operates.

Anti-racism comes into our work in order to encourage professionals to work, in their different areas, with care and awareness regarding racism in Brazil, the impacts of racial discrimination on the lives of black people and show how these professionals can have anti-racist practices at your job.

One of our actions in this regard was the launch of the First Report on Black Paternities in Brazil, in 2020.

We also developed, in partnership with Unicef, the Anti-Racist Childhood Strategy (PIA), launched in 2023, which aimed to draw the attention of Brazilian education, social assistance and health professionals to the impacts of racism on child development, in addition to to guarantee, in fact, qualified and humanized care for black and indigenous children and parents through guidance and guidance on the adoption of anti-racist practices. The initiative aims to ensure the full development of children to their potential by confronting structural and institutional racism.
