Access of the LGBT Population Living in Favelas to Public Health Services: Barriers, Silences and Perspectives

This article discusses the access of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite, Transsexual and Transgender (LGBT) population living in favelas to public health services, seeking to understand some specificities related to health care for this population. This debate is based on a study of the perceptions of health professionals and the LGBT population on the topic, in order to understand the subjective or social barriers related to full access to health for the LGBT population and indicates issues linked to inequalities in access to services. The article draws attention to the multiplicities of characteristics present in the LGBT population and its recommendations for comprehensive health care within favelas.
