In Brazil there are 23,141,413 children up to 6 years of age (IBGE, Census 2000). This text will address issues relating to early childhood in Brazil, the laws that protect and promote the rights of children in this age group and the situation in which this portion of the population finds itself in different contexts – such as, for example, in relation to health services. education and health.
